Prague 'ideal for Winter Breaks'
Travellers staying in cheap hotels in Prague this winter will be guaranteed some memorable experiences, according to a recent survey carried out by Lonely Planet.
The company questioned its staff and authors around the world about their favourite destinations for a winter getaway and discovered a widespread fondness for the Czech capital.
One respondent, Ali Lemer, said Prague is "gorgeously festive" during December, with "lit-up holiday night markets in every square selling hot drinks, sweets, gifts and crafts".
The Lonely Planet staff member added: "Walking down the old cobbled laneways with a new scarf and a hot chocolate in hand is a wonderfully European way to spend the winter."
Several unusual destinations were identified in the survey, from the South Pacific island of Vanuatu and Oaxaca in Mexico to Tahoe in the US and even Antarctica.
Lonely Planet recently published Best in Travel 2010, a guide to the top experiences, destinations, journeys and events on offer next year.
