Dancing in Denmark

Dancing in Denmark Copenhagen Police Headquarters (or Politigarden) sounds like an unlikely venue for an arts events but the Summerdance festival of contemporary dance has been held here before.

Three of Scandanavia's best dance companies and choreographers will perform against the backdrop of the neo-classical architecture in the open air of the courtyard.

British-born artistic director of Danish Dance Theatre (DDT) Tim Rushton will introduce his company with special guest Johan Kobborg, Carte Blanche from Norway and Marie Brolin-Tani from Sweden.

According to DDT, Mr Rushton "gained rapid respect as creator of modern dance, using classical technique and was commissioned by many dance and ballet companies. He earned nominations and awards for his work".

Politigarden is in the centre of Copenhagen, only two minutes from hisorica amusement park Tivoli Gardens, the main railway station (Hovedbanegarden) and City Hall Square (Radhuspladsen).

The building, completed in 1924, was designed by Hack Kampmann and draws from southern European renaissance and architecture of the baroque period and provides a fine setting for the event.

Visitors to the event, which takes place from August 6th to 12th, can find a range of places to stay in the city, including cheap hotels.
