Northern Lights

Northern lights Frederikshavn in northern Denmark plays host to its own festival of lights as the winter nights draw in, running from November 10th to the 26th.

According to the festival site, six designers will create a light fantastic as buildings and monuments all over town are lit up with various coloured light displays.

The show is provided by the local council and several light companies, two of which are locally based, and returns after being staged for the first time in 2004.

Conferences and workshops on artificial lighting with take place in parallel with the show.

Public and visitors will be able to walk around the town and enjoy the light shows for free, take part in workshops and can combine a visit to the town with a wider Scandinavian tour, with ferries running to and from Oslo and Gothenburg.

As a major port, Frederikshavn has a strong naval heritage and plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
