Take Me Holme

Take me Holme For those who love variety in their classical music, Denmark offers a chance to sample the works of a lesser-known composer.

Held in the town of Horsens from March the 16th to the 18th, the work of the composer Vagn Holmboe is celebrated with a series of concerts.

Musicians and groups featured include the Tolkein Ensemble and the Copenhagen Philharmonic.

Holmboe's music was influenced by a variety of elements, from his classical education at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen to the folk music he experienced when studying in Berlin and later Transylvania with his Romanian wife.

The town of Horsens itself has a fascinating range of attractions for visitors staying in cheap hotels.

Among these are the ruined Erik Menveds Castle, the neolithic Dolmen tomb, sailing on the fjord and even a tractor museum.

Horsens is set on the west coast of continental Denmark, close to the mortorway south of Aarhus.
