Places of Interest in Tallinn

The city wall of Tallinn was built in the 16th century and was considered by many to be the finest in Northern Europe. You can still walk along two kilometres of that same wall today. The wall also has 26 towers still intact, and is one of the city's main attractions.

Guided tours take place in the Bastion Tunnels, which have only recently been opened, for visitors.  The size and length of these structures is so impressive its not to be missed.

The old town Kesklinn is between the harbour and railway station. This area has many hidden surprises you will find as you stroll around at your own leisure.  Roaming vendors in this area try to sell postcards but the Post Office by the Nevsky Cathedral sells a wider selection for around half the price.

A short bus ride from Baltijaam railway station is Rocca Al Mare where the Open Air Museum is located.  Assembled are wooden houses, chapels and stables creating 18th – 20th century country style Estonia.  The Kolu Inn in one building serves a brunch of pea soup and mashed potato on wooden places to add to the atmosphere.  The souvenirs here are also good value as they mainly cater for local visitors.

Eating Out in Tallinn

The restaurant Kuldse Notsu Korts at 8 Dunkri offers good Estonian cooking. Try out the crisp pork knuckles and sauerkraut with mustard. All this can be washed down with some great ales and wines. The Little Piggy Inn is the English translation for this restaurant and comes recommended.

The restaurant Marcelle at 28-30 Ruutli is a dinning experience. If you like large portions of meat, flashy costumes and Gypsy Music, then head over to the restaurant Marcelle. This restaurant does get booked out very quick, so it is worth making a reservation if you have the time.

Eesti Maja has become a meeting point of locals and tourists.  The reasonably priced venue serves a range of dishes from pork in cider to well laced and spiced mashes potatoes.  Chocolate cake and fruits of the forest ice cream makes a great desert here.

Tallinn Nightlife

Start the evening of low key at Gloria Veinikelder located at 2 Muurivahe. For those who love their wine, then this is one for you. Nearly every country and every region in the world is covered here. Also as an added extra bargain, fine music for free.   Casa Del Habano on Dunkri serves cocktails from a much bigger variety of spirits than any Cuban bar could manage.

For those who like live music, try out Von Krahli Theatre Bar. This club/bar is well supported by the locals of Tallinn, and many local bands start here. The Von Krahli Theatre Bar is located at 10 Rataskaevu.

Check out Parliament on Tartu Mnt for a late night. This venue can hold up to 2,500 partygoers with three floors including one for live music. The local's only start arriving just before midnight.  This place is busy, loud, late, and great fun.
