The southern Finnish city of Tampere turns on the flower power in summer, when the Tampere Flower Festival fills the city with the colours of nature in late July and early August (dates to be confirmed).
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in the city will find the centre bedecked in a vast array of floral arrangements, while all kinds of other activities are going on.
There's outdoor games for the children in the historic Amuri Quarter and vast amounts of food and wine, including the Tampere Floral Tartlet.
In addition, there is plenty of music, including several rock bands from the country which brought us Lordi.
The nine days of the festival in the city offer plenty of fun and variety for visitors, who can also enjoy the local scenery in this land of lakes.
Central Tampere lies between two lakes, Nasijarvi and Pyhajarvi, with the linking river tumbling between the two being the basis for the foundation of this industrial city.
