Coin Named in Honour of Finnish Eurovision Champs
A special collector coin is to be minted in honour of Lordi, the Finnish hard rock group who won the Eurovision Song Contest at the weekend.
Raimo Makkonen, the chief executive of Mint of Finland, told the Finnish News Agency (STT) that the project was already underway.
It is now hoped that the coins will be issued in time for next year's Eurovision competition in Finland.
This comes after it was announced that new euro coins are to be minted for the whole of the eurozone to reflect the enlargement of the European Union.
Each country is free to decide on its own timetable for the introduction of the coins and the old coins are expected to remain in use with the new ones until they go out of circulation.
Currently the euro coins have a map of the European Union on one side, which includes the 15 old member states.
