Finnish Music Unmasked

Finnish music unmasked Finnish music may be famous for hard-rocking Eurovision victors Lordi at the moment, but a more peaceful alternative is taking place at the end of June.

What's more, music lovers will be able to enjoy some local talent, without a gruesome death mask in sight.

Sata-Hame, Finland's own accordion music festival will be taking place in the beautiful city of Ikaalinen, so fans will be able to relax in the spectacular surrounding by day and enjoy the evocative instruments in the evening.

The event will also feature a lively competition; the first Primus Ikaalinen International Accordion Competition will determine the best musicians, while musical styles such as Latin American and jazz rhythms will add variety to the six-day festival.

Ikaalinen is based around the picturesque lake Kyrosjarvi and has a long tradition of folk music, particularly played on the accordion.

The city has been a popular tourist attraction in Finland for many years, and even in modern times around 55 per cent of the population earns a living from the service industry.
