Helsinki Hosts Asian Festival

Helsinki hosts Asian Festival The tenth annual Asia festival began yesterday in the Finnish capital of Helsinki and the event is expected to stretch for 11 days.

Taking centre stage at the event this year are countries of the Indian Ocean that were involved in 2004 tsunami.

Events during the festival are set to include films and exhibitions in different parts of the country, as well as a display of popular Indian art.

Guests are set to include artists from the Aceh province on the northern tip of the Indonesian island of Sumatra where the tsunami destroyed the province.

"We did not only lose people to the Tsunami - we also lost all historical documents, our identity. Now we have a great task ahead of us, as we try to reconstruct the history of Aceh," comments Sri Wahy, a director of the Aceh Cultural Institute.

In the Finnish city of Tampere there will also be an exhibition of Asian textiles at the Vabriikki Museum.

Now may be the perfect time to visit Finland and stay in one of the many quality hotels in Helsinki.
