Hot Stuff in the Frozen North
Visitors to Scandinavia in the summer can enjoy some long days and people happy to celebrate the fact with the long dark days waiting in the future, with the Helsinki Festival being no exception.
Lasting from August 17th to September 2nd, the festival is a smorgasbord of entertainment, with the arts, music, cinema, dance and theatre mixing with a lot of late-night bonfires.
The published schedule lists performances in all these disciplines, with some lasting into the small hours.
Numerous venues host events, with tickets priced as from €18 (£12.20).
In addition to the festival, visitors staying in cheap hotels in Helsinki can enjoy a range of attractions.
These include from grand buildings such as the Uspenski Cathedral, the largest orthodox cathedral in the world, Suomenlinna, one of the biggest sea forts in the world and one of the oldest zoos in the world.
