See More Than Santa Claus in Lapland
As the traditional home of Santa Claus, Lapland will always be inextricably linked to the Christmas period, but motorsport fans will be waiting until the festive hubbub has died down to head to the Finland province for an Arctic rally.
Between January 24th and 26th 2008, the region hosts the 43rd Arctic Lapland Rally, which the organisers describe as an "adventure in the Arctic Circle".
This race is distinguished from other rallies around the world by Finland's distinctive climate and the character of the polar nights.
The first leg of the rally will begin at Lordi Square, Rovaniemi city centre on January 25th and end at Sampo shopping centre, before the second leg takes place on the return route the following day.
Spectators at this event will see drivers negotiating narrow, tree-lined roads, sharp corners and hairpin bends at breakneck speed.
While not enjoying the action of the rally, people staying in cheap hotels in Finland can explore the country's incredible landscapes and may even get the chance to see the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.
