Books Broaden Holiday Wish List
The long-awaited release of the film adaptation of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code premieres in Cannes this month and it is thought that it could spark a wave of travel among Brits.
It is thought that readers will be eager to retrace the book's action as it unfolds in Paris, Scotland and London, according to American Express Insurance Services.
In a survey conducted by the insurance provider, one in six respondents cited books such as Captain Corelli's Mandolin, the Da Vinci Code and the Lord of the Rings trilogy as inspiration for their next holiday.
Overall, figures show that personal recommendation about a country, resort or place was the biggest driver to choose, with almost 60 per cent of people taking the advice of family and friends.
Statistics show that there is a 14 per cent increase in the number of planned foreign weekend breaks over the next 12 months.
"Thanks to the internet, low cost air fares and books such as the Da Vinci Code, we are all being inspired to travel more often both at home and abroad," comments Joanne Field, marketing manager for American Express Insurance Services.
Now may be the perfect opportunity to book your accommodation in one of the many luxury hotels in Paris.
