Fans of sport on four wheels can enjoy one of the biggest events on the motorsport calendar in France on June 16th and 17th as the Le Mans 24 hour rally takes place just outside the city at the Circuit de la Sarthe.

Beginning at 15:00 local time on the 16th, those among the 55 entrants that have made the starting grid will spend a whole gruelling day hurtling round the racecourse and through the forest, in rallying's greatest test of speed, skill and endurance.

Various tickets are available from organisers, with an all-in ticket including qualifying (June 3rd), practice (June 13th to the15th) and the race itself for €61 (£41).

Fans will be able to find a wide variety of accommodation in the area, including cheap hotels.

The city also offers some fine attractions that can be enjoyed at a steadier pace, including the Cathedral of Saint-Julien and a number of Roman structures, including the old city wall and the Roman Baths.
