Discover Mystery and Glitter at the Musee D'Orsay

Discover mystery and glitter at the Musee d'Orsay Paris' Musee d'Orsay will this year host an exhibition of pastel works under the title 'mystery and glitter'.

The museum houses around 350 pastels produced between 1850 and 1914, including creations by artists such as Millet, Manet, Degas, Redon and Levy-Dhurmer.

Pastels went through a period of marginalisation by the generation of artists who followed Quentin de la Tour, an artist who lived from 1704 to 1788 and worked primarily in the medium.

However, the form of expression was taken up again by Romantic and Realist artists and reached a new level of popularity around 1850.

In its use by figures such as Redon, Degas and Manet, the pastel showed that it could enable its users to fuse drawing with the employment of colour and create a sense of radiance.

People staying in cheap hotels in Paris will be able to see the Musee d'Orsay's exhibition of work in the medium from October 8th.
