Don't Sleep in on Nuits De Fourviere
The Nuits de Fourviere festival kicks off in Lyon tonight, heralding the start of another eclectic summer of performances.
Theatre, music and dance are all brought to life by performers in the two Roman amphitheatres at Fourviere, outside Lyon, which were built by Augustus and Hadrian during the Roman Empire and are now ideal locations for the modern festival.
Now taking place over two months, the former five-day festival has grown and adapted over its ten year life-span.
In its tenure, the event has diversified as its popularity has soared, world stars such as Blondie, Bob Dylan and the late Jeff Buckley having graced the stage.
The event is by no means a glorified pop concert though, as performance of works by Beethoven, Mozart, Shakespeare and Bizet have possibly given a deifferent artistic palette something to enjoy.
Music acts featuring at this summer's shindig include Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes and Sting.
