Explore Holy Russia at the Louvre

Explore Holy Russia at the Louvre Cheap hotels in Paris could prove popular among people with an interest in the history of art next year when a major new exhibition is launched at the Louvre.

Holy Russia will open on March 5th and will run until May 24th.

Part of the 'year of Russia' celebrations in France, the show explores the history of Christian Russia, from the ninth century all the way up to the 1700s.

The exhibition begins with the very first mention of Russians in historical records and focuses on some notable figures from the country's cultural history, including the painters Theophanes, Rublev and Dionysius.

Visitors will be able to learn about some of the seminal developments in Russia's artistic heritage, including the reign of Ivan the Terrible in the 16th century and the sweeping changes imposed by Peter the Great nearly 200 years later.

Currently on display at the Louvre is a showcase of work by Venetian painters including Titian and Tintoretto, which will be open until January 4th.
