Explore the French Life of an American Hero

Explore the French life of an American hero Benjamin Franklin is one of the heroic figures of American history, but visitors to Paris will be able to learn about a lesser-known period of his life this year.

The French capital's Musee Carnavalet will host an exhibition until March 9th exploring the life of Franklin during the time he spent living in Paris, between 1776 and 1786.

Some 340 paintings, sculptures and documents have been brought together for the exhibition.

The display will focus on the political and scientific influences that Franklin had on Paris and consider his role as a defender of human rights and a figurehead for republican values.

Franklin lived from 1706 to 1790 and was one of the most important founding fathers of the United States.

He was the inventor of the lightning rod, bifocals and the Franklin stove and the originator of the maxim: "In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes."
