Explore the Louvre During World War II

Explore the Louvre during World War II People with a combined interest in art and history will find an exhibition that suits their tastes perfectly at the Louvre this year.

Until August 31st, the Paris institution will present a display of photographs that tell the story of the museum during the years of World War II.

The exhibition brings together a collection of 56 French and German images that were captured between the years of 1938 and 1947, many of which have never been shown in public before.

Visitors to the show will be able to learn about the evacuation of the Louvre during the chaos of the war and the eventual reinstallation of its works.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the collection of the photographer Pierre Jahan, which illustrates the Nazis' requisitioning of rooms in the museum for the storage and sorting of items that had been taken from Jewish families and French art dealers.

Also offering a journey into the past is the display The Gates of Heaven. This show, which explores ancient Egyptian culture, will be open for people staying in cheap hotels in Paris to visit at the Louvre until June 29th.
