Fancy a Lille Bit of Soup?

Fancy a Lille bit of soup? Lille in northern France has many attractions, but for gastronomes it may come as a pleasant surprise to discover that the city has a festival especially dedicated to soup.

Held on May 1st every year, La Louche d'Or, (The Golden Ladle) is a special event dedicated to the liquid lunch, held in the Wazemmes district.

Those who enjoy soup will be able to enjoy spooning down a wide range of them from all over the world, while enjoying the sights and sounds of an historic city that was European capital of culture in 2004.

Among the attractions for those staying in cheap hotels in Lille are grand buildings such as the 17th century Vauban Citadel and the Grand Place.

Lying close to the Belgian border, it also offers the opportunity to cross into the low countries and explore Belgium's soups (and other attractions).
