Have a Gander at Neander

Have a gander at neander For those fascinated by the science of anthropology the Neanderthal museum at Chapelle-aux-Saints in central France offers a fascinating insight into this early human species.

While Neanderthal man is now recognised as not being our ancestor, the fascination with them remains, hence the opening of the museum in 1996, which is open until November 1st, close to the site of a major discovery of a 45,000-year-old burial site in 1908.

Entry costs €4 - giving visitors the chance to discover all about the environment, lifestyle and rituals of the Neanderthals, as well as viewing a reconstruction of the burial site.

Chapelle-aux-Saints is located in the Limousin region in the rural centre of France.

The area has many caves associated with anthropological finds, as well as lots of outdoor activities such as rock climbing.

It has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
