Life on Mars

Life on Mars Tourists looking to head to somewhere warm as autumn kicks in will have plenty enough reasons to look at the south of France, but there is another from September 22nd to October the 2nd – the Marseille International Fair.

Attracting over 350,000 visitors a year, the fair has a vast range of exhibits, from food to the latest mod cons and from furniture to culture.

Over 40 countries, drawn from all around the world take part in the festival, which is held in the Parc Chanot exhibition centre.

Marseille has plenty of accommodation, including lots of cheap hotels.

It is a city with a delightful setting on the Cote d'Azur enclosed by the limestone cliffs of the Calanques.

Founded by the Phoenicians in 600 BC, Marseille remains an important port today, particularly between Europe and Africa, giving it a true melting pot ambience.

Alexander Dumas, author of The Three Musketeers, once called Marseille "The meeting place of the entire world"; for 12 days this autumn the city will be out to prove the truth of those words.
