Marseille's Oarsmen Show off Their Jousting
On August 5th the oarsman of Provence will partake in a spot of water jousting at the Port de I'Estraque in Marseille.
In a series of tournaments, Marseille's water-jousters will do battle as part of the Water Jousting Provence Championship.
The competition sees two single-manned boats pit their wits against each other, with the main aim being to knock your competitor into the water.
The free event will take place between 15:00 and 17:30 local time on the 5th. However, should eager spectators miss the event, other competitions will take place on two additional dates - August 12th and August 19th.
Water jousting has been an official sport in France since 1996, reports Columbus Travel Publishing and was established by the Federation Françaises de Joutes et Sauvetage Nautique.
