More Than Just the Can-can in Cannes
The can-can may be many people's first thought when French dance is mentioned, but visitors to Cannes in late November will learn that the country has a lot more to offer.
Running from November 23rd to December 1st, the Cannes Dance Festival is seen as one of the major choreographic events in France.
The festival was founded by the City of Cannes in 1984 but became a biennial celebration in 1993. Over the years it has welcomed more than 150 dance companies and a variety of choreographers, dancers and musicians.
This year's line-up will include the Ballet Biarritz, Europa Danse and the Ballet National de Marseille.
In addition to the dance shows there will be seminars, conferences and exhibitions allowing visitors to satisfy their appetites to learn everything they can about dance.
People staying in cheap hotels in Cannes around the time of the festival should look out for the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, the Noga Croisette theatre and La Licorne theatre, where the main events will be held.
