Musee D'Orsay Explores Watercolours

Musee d'Orsay explores watercolours Paris' Musee d'Orsay will dedicate its considerable artistic expertise and resources to the exploration of watercolours this year.

Running from May 27th until September 7th, the exhibition will look at the development of watercolour painting in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The 1800s saw significant strides made in the technique of watercolour painting, leading a number of young artists to show an interest in the art-form at the beginning of the 20th century.

One of the major factors in the development of the medium was the creation of portable equipment, sparking a trend of open-air painting, which in turn gave rise to a new freedom in style.

This new approach to watercolours, which often used nature as its subject rather than static objects or people, found its most significant proponent in Paul Cezanne.

The Musee d'Orsay is one of many must-visit locations for art lovers staying in cheap hotels in Paris, housing numerous famous pieces by the likes of Monet and Renoir.
