Paris Hosts Handel Concert

Paris hosts Handel concert To coincide with a romantic trip to Paris, visitors to the city might enjoy an evening of Handel's Giulio Cesare, played by some of opera's stars.

The season of Les Arts Florissants is in full swing, celebrating its 30th year in the French capital and on February 9th, 12th and 14th, the Salle Pleyel will host Handel's opera in concert-form.

Conducted by William Christie, who showcased the opera at Glyndebourne in 2005, the Paris performance of Giulio Cesare will feature world-renowned soprano Cecilia Bartoli.

Bartoli will play the role of Cleopatra, alongside Andreas Scholl's Caesar. The story tells the tale of Caesar's defeat of Pompey and his love for Cleopatra as she becomes crowned as Queen of Egypt.

Giulio Cesare promises a tale of thwarted love and burning passion as well as emotion and creativity, despite limited props and drama of a concert setting.

People who book a cheap hotel in Paris can also enjoy a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower on Valentine's Day for a stunning view and possibly a romantic proposal.
