Paris, London, New York in Monopoly world top ten People planning stays in cheap hotels in Paris, London or New York in the future will be interested to hear that their destinations are among the top ten most expensive cities that will appear on the international Monopoly board.

Game maker Hasbro invited the votes of people from around the world for locations that should be included on its Monopoly Here and Now: World Edition board, getting responses from some 5.6 million people.

After the votes were counted, the unlikely cities of Montreal and Riga emerged at the top of the list and will therefore be the most expensive cities in which to buy property.

Cape Town and Belgrade came in third and fourth respectively, followed by Paris in fifth. Jerusalem and Hong Kong were next in the rankings, with Beijing, London and New York rounding off the top ten.

Helen Martin of game-maker Hasbro said in a statement: "We hope that fans of the world's most popular board game will enjoy buying, selling and trading real estate from around the globe in the new Monopoly game that they created with their votes.

"We are thrilled that the first-ever global game board includes an interesting mix of cities that showcases the dynamic cultures, sights and history of the planet."

The global version of Monopoly will be released in more than 50 countries worldwide on August 26th.
