Paris Pays Tribute to William Blake
Art lovers staying in cheap hotels in Paris over the coming weeks can visit a special exhibition in the city dedicated to the English painter and poet William Blake.
The display, which will be open at the Musee des Beaux Arts until June 28th, is the first retrospective in France to focus on the British artist.
Around 150 drawings, engravings, books and watercolours composed by Blake feature in the exhibition, most of which have been borrowed from British museums.
Visitors to the showcase will learn all about an artist who, while not particularly well known during his time, proved to be hugely influential in the years after his death, inspiring everyone from the pre-Raphaelites of the 1800s to the surrealists of the 20th century.
Blake is now recognised as one of the most significant artistic figures of the Romantic age, along with the likes of Constable and Turner.
People visiting Paris before the end of June will also be able to see a new exhibition at the Louvre which includes nearly 200 exhibits associated with the civilisation of ancient Egypt.
