Summer Days at Lourdes
Lourdes, famous for its catholic shrines, holds a two-month summer festival every year in which visitors can enjoy a variety of events in this attractive location in the Pyrenean foothills in addition to all its normal attractions.
Running right through from June to August, the festival includes aspects as varied as musicals and antique markets, star gazing and folk dancing, while Whatsonwhen reports that a fairground will come to town in mid-August, followed by a Days of Peace festival, when the summer fetes conclude with a series of guest speakers.
Those interested in the pilgrimage sites can visit the shrine at the Notre Dame of Lourdes Sanctuaries and the Basilica of the Rosary, while other notable attractions include the chairlift to the top of Le Pic du Jer, which offers panoramic views, the National Museum of the Chateau de Pau and the Mauvezin Castle.
