The History's Orange

The history's Orange Opera fans who fancy enjoying some performances in the oldest opera festival in France can do so in style at the Les Chorégies d'Orange, held this summer on the Cote D'Azur.

The festival dates back to 1860, which is impressive enough, but the venue dates back even further, being a well preserved open-air Roman theatre capable of holding 9,000 spectators.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in the town of Orange have a choice of when to go, with one series of concerts in early July and then again at the end of July and start of August.

The performances listed by organisers lined up for the festival are Madame Butterfly on July 7th and 9th, a symphony concert on July 10th, Verdi's Il Travore on July 28th and 31st, with a lyric concert on August 3rd.

Performances begin at 21:30 local time and can be rescheduled for the next day if bad weather intervenes.

Opera fans will also be able to enjoy the beauty, sunshine and warm Mediterranean sea of the Cote D'Azur during their stay.
