Thess Is How To Do It
Greece in late autumn is always likely to be an enticing place, with warmer weather making a nice change from the rain and falling leaves, but the Thessaloniki International Film Festival offers an extra reason.
The festival takes place in November at a date to be confirmed and claims to be the biggest film festival in the Balkans.
It has a wide range of films of both Greek and overseas origin, with screenings taking place at the Olympion Cineam Complex.
The main criterion for entry is that the films are the first or second by any of the directors taking part.
As well as the festival, Thessaloniki offers plenty for visitors.
Founded in 315 BC and named after the sister of Alexander the Great, its history runs from the Greek empire, through biblical times (two of the Apostle Paul's letters were written to the early church there), the Byzantine period and onto modern times when it has become Greece's second city.
The result has been a city of numerous museums, monuments and archeological sites.
It also has plenty of accommodation options, including cheap hotels.
