Toast the Best Avignon Has to Offer
Devoted wine lovers know that no trip is too far to sample something truly special, so might fancy making the journey to Avignon in November to try the region's first bottles of the year.
The locals have made a tradition of cracking open the season's first wines and the whole town gets involved in a day of free tastings and other celebrations of all things alcoholic.
Avignon is part of France's Cotes du Rhone wine-growing region, one of the largest producers of red, rose and white wines in the country.
The city is situated in the south of the country, not far from the Mediterranean coast, and possibly best known for the Palace of the Popes, where the Popes resided for much of the 14th century.
It is not far from the coastal city of Marseille, a popular destination with travellers looking to enjoy the delights of southern France and find accommodation in cheap hotels.
