Trip to Versailles from Paris for Exhibition
While staying in cheap hotels in Paris, the Palace of Versailles is a great destination for visitors looking for some royal culture.
From January 26th to April 25th, the palace will be exhibiting Versailles Photographed in the Galerie de Pierre Haute of the north wing.
Over one hundred photographs taken between 1850 and 2010 will be on show celebrating the iconic building, with unique portraits and perceptions from its photographers.
Many photographers have shot the beautiful palace, including early century artists Edward Steichen, Man Ray and Jacques-Henri Lartigue. Modern artists Annie Leibovitz and Karl Lagerfeld will also have their photographs displayed.
Curator Karine McGrath said that the pictures "will help the public appreciate the way in which photographers have attempted to represent the many facets of Versailles and what makes it beautiful".
The Palace of Versailles was once the home of Marie-Antoinette and the kings of France. It is an icon of pre-revolutionary France and many visitors to Paris take the half-hour train journey from the Gare St Lazarre.
