World's Best Athletes Race to Paris

The French capital will host some of the world's best athletes, as well as the usual complement of people staying in cheap hotels in Paris, for the Meeting Gaz de France in July.

This event, which is part of the Golden League athletics tournament, will be held at the Stade de France in St Denis on July 18th.

The Golden League was a platform invented to ensure that the world's top athletes get the opportunity to compete on a regular basis.

It gets underway on June 1st in Berlin's 1936 Olympic stadium, the venue that provided the conclusion of last year's Golden League, when a record 70,253 spectators came to watch the competition.

As well as getting one up on their rivals, the athletes taking part in the tournament have the opportunity to win a $1 million (£512,000) prize if they win all six of their Golden League events.

A total of ten disciplines comprise the competition, including the 100 metres, 400-metre hurdles and javelin for men, and the 200 metres, 100-metre hurdles and high jump for women.
