Cheap Hotels in Germany - News

Absolutely Quackers

At a time when many birds are flying south for the winter, there is one that can always be relied upon to stay put – the rubber duck.

However, in south-western Germany the bathroom accessory does more than keep the soap company; the town of Tubingen in Baden-Wuttermberg hosts its own rubber duck race every October.

As many as 7,000 yellow ducks float down the river Neckar in the Entenrennen (duck race), with a €1,000 (£681) prize making it all very worthwhile.

The Baden-Wuttermberg area has plenty of accommodation including cheap hotels.

Away from the unusual race, the region, centred on the city of Stuttgart, offers a variety of attractions, including palaces, castles and woodland, as well as the scenery of the Neckar valley itself.

To the west of Tubingen, near the border with France, lies the famous spa resort of Baden-Baden, used by the England football team as its World Cup base.
