Bad is Brilliant

With a name like Bad Canstatt, the village of that name just outside Stuttgart may not sound such a great place, but from late September to mid-October it is the scene of a grand party in the true German tradition.

The Canstatter Volkfest runs from September 28th to October 14th, combining fairgrounds and entertainment for all the family with the ambience of the better-known Munich Oktoberfest.

As a result, those staying in cheap hotels in Stuttgart at this time can enjoy huge varieties and amounts of beer in big tents amid the same atmosphere of celebration and crowds of people wearing braces without setting foot in Bavaria.

Organisers of the festival have also stated that there are special events going on during the festival, which include the opening party and tapping of the barrel on the first day, fireworks on the final evening, plus a carnival, grocery market and hot air ballooning in between.

Two days, October the 3rd and the 10th, have been set aside as special family days with reduced prices.
