Beer Lovers Flock to Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest, which is mainly held in September, is one of the most famous events in the world.
Although beer may not be everyone's cup of tea, its popularity remains pretty strong, with six million visitors descending on the Bavarian capital to drink a pint or ten, between September 16th and October 3rd 2006.
The festival goers eat and drink their way through 300,000 sausages, 600,000 chickens and 80 oxen, in addition to a hangover-inducing six million litres of finest German beer.
Although visitors may imagine the event to be a raucous, boisterous display of hard-drinking bleariness, which admittedly much of it is, tents are also available for those who wish to enjoy the traditional Bavarian lifestyle and still remember it the next day.
The Kafer tent offers visitors an altogether different option, stocked by Munich's most famous delicatessen, while the wine and champagne tent is another escape from the amber nectar.
However, many of the English, Australian, American and Japanese visitors will be swilling a few litres of beer, combined with plenty of dancing, finished by a weary, tricky stumble back to their cheap hotels.
