Berlin Beerfest Celebrates Tenth Anniversary

Berlin beerfest celebrates tenth anniversary The World Cup may be over, but Berlin and its beer will still be pulling the crowds to party away the first weekend of August.

The city's annual beer festival is a first among equals and will celebrate its tenth anniversary this year.

Almost 1800 brands of beer will be on offer from 80 different countries, with stalls covering a mile of ground along the Karl Marx Allee.

If you have ever wanted to taste Voodoo Dark from Benin or Gurkha beer from Nepal, the Berlin festival is the place to do it.

Admission is free and attractive incentives abound. For 3.50 Euros, visitors can buy a commemorative collector's glass and have it filled for only 1.50 Euros a time at participating breweries' stalls.

Just in case visitors should feel the need for a distraction, this year the Berlin festival will also host a procession of historical brewery vehicles and heavy horses and a collectors' fair for all breweriana. Don't forget your granny's horse brasses – you never know!
