Boozy Times Promised in Hamburg

Boozy times promised in Hamburg Hamburg's famous beer festival, which attracts over 100,000 boozers to the city, is taking place again on August 19th 2006.

The World Astra Festival may sound like a motoring exhibition, but it is in fact a chance for beer fans from across Europe to visit the St Pauli Landungsbrucken in the city's harbour district.

An atmosphere already heady with the amber nectar will be added to by entertainers and the highly charged music popular throughout Germany.

Concerts, comedy and, of course, a drink or two will no doubt entertain the crowds, but many believe that the uphill Bobby Car race is the true highlight of the event.

The competition sees grown men and women sat aside small child's play cars, desperately competing to be the first to reach the top of the hafenstrasse.

Hamburg itself is a vibrant city, with cheap hotels and a wide range of shows, cuisine and entertainments to keep even the most sober of visitors happy.
