Drop in on Hamburg

Drop in on Hamburg Visitors to Hamburg who fancy a fast-moving visit to the harbour area can do just that, provided they like plummeting from a large crane with a rope tied round their ankles.

First popularised in New Zealand, bungee-jumping may be a sport invented to give the least sane people on Earth something to do at the weekends, but it has grown in popularity as more and more people literally take the plunge in a life changing (or at least flashing before them) experience.

A 47-metre high crane set up above the River Elbe offers daring visitors the chance to say "I've done it", with the local tourist board stating that there are two dates in September, the 2nd and the 23rd, when this death-defying stunt can be undertaken.

Depending on when tickets are bought or how many jumps undertaken, the cost varies between €49 and €89 (£60).

Hamburg has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels, who can also explore the cafe culture of the harbour area and the city's many Hanseatic-era buildings with their feet firmly on the ground.
