Duss the Way You Like It

Duss the way you like it The pre-lent season brings a plethora of carnivals to Germany, but few can rival Dusseldorf's for size, colour or history.

Running since 1825, the carnival next takes place in late February 2007, with women taking over the town hall and cutting the ties off men to show who is really in charge in the Altweiberfastnacht parade on the 23rd, a street carnival on Sunday 26th and finally the huge Rose Monday parade on February 27th.

Attracting hundreds of floats and thousands of spectators drinking thousands of pints of beer, the party is spectacular and political satire is a prominent feature.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Dusseldorf will also be able to enjoy a variety of attractions in the city, with panoramic views offered 550 feet up in the Rhine Tower, plenty of shopping and historic buildings such as the Bergplatz Castle and Benrath Palace.

The historic city of Cologne is close by and easily reached by a short train journey.
