Frankfurt, the home of the eponymous sausage, is hosting an event which promises fun for the whole family in September.

Holidaymakers looking for a European break may want to check out the event, which could well keep the kids entertained between September 9th and 19th.

With roller-coasters, carousels and rides, the children may be buzzing around on a candy-floss high, while the parents sample the regional wines and foods available at the event.

A local speciality is apple wine, served in earthenware jugs, which could help to wash down the last bite of local sausage.

Huge fireworks displays will also be held to mark the beginning and end of the festival, after which worn out, wine-weary parents may be eager to return to their cheap hotels for a good night's sleep.

The Dippemess began life as a 14th century market for household crafts, evolving into one of the country's most popular events, attracting as many as 500,000 visitors.
