Ham It Up

Ham it up Those who like their festivals on a large scale will find a huge attraction for kids of all ages at the Dommarkt in Hamburg between November 3rd and December 3rd.

The fair, sited at the Heiligengeistfeld, is held once every three years, attracting a reported 2.8 million visitors, with seasonally themed areas and a range of white knuckle rides.

In the midst of the fair is a huge wheel with grand views across the city.

The city beyond the fair is well worth seeing from ground level too, with its Hanseatic medieval heritage and architecture, reknowned nightlife and green spaces.

Boat rides on the Alster Lake and the famous Hamburg Ballet can also be enjoyed, without a white knuckle in sight.

Set in the far north of Germany, the city also makes a good base for touring the North Sea coast region or even making excursions into Denmark.

Hamburg has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels.
