Oktober Best
The biggest event on the Bavarian Calendar and the biggest beer-drinking event in the known universe take place from September 22nd to October 7th 2007.
Every year vast crowds descend on the city for a gargantuan booze-up, with flagons and tankards of beer mixing with a huge amount of food and an army of Bavarians in traditional dress, right down to the leather shorts, braces and traditional, thigh-slapping dance routines, all of which is accompanied by huge brass bands.
In short, there is no lack of atmosphere in the vast beer tents.
Oktoberfest is held in the Theresienwiese, where, organisers have said, the price of a pint varies between 7.70 (£5.20) and 8.
Beer lovers having the time of their life will not be able to get to the event by car (for obvious reasons), but organisers have advised that the festival is easily reached both by train and by the underground.
Munich has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels.
