Put It on Ice
Since the fall of the Berlin Wall the former East Germany has offered a range of new opportunities for tourists, with the city of Rostock providing another from November 23rd to the 26th.
Holiday on Ice – The Mystery show is a touring performance with costumed performers skating through magical and illusory themed dances, based on stories such as Alice in Wonderland, to a spectacular accompaniment of music and lights.
Visitors will find familiar tunes such as "Magical Mystery Tour" by the Beatles and "It's a Kind of Magic" by Queen being played in a completely new setting.
Entry prices vary from $15 to $40 (£10 to £27), with concessions for children, pensioners and students.
Outside the arena, Rostock has many attractions for visitors.
An historic city with the oldest university in northern Europe (founded 1419), Rostock is a Baltic port with a long history and a wealth of medieval buildings dating from the Hanseatic period.
Popular buildings include St Peter's Church with it's 355-ft spire, the 13th century Town Hall and of course the brewery, where visitors can see beer being made and test the product.
The city has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
Rostock's location in north-eastern Germany makes it possible to combine the trip with excursions into Poland or Denmark.
