Quest for Equestrian Fun

Fans of showjumping, dressage and all things equine will be in their element in Frankfurt this December as the International Riding Tournament gets underway.

Held at the city's Festhalle arena, this event has become a Christmas tradition in Frankfurt and is recognised as one of the richest indoor equestrian events in Europe.

Over €350,000 (£244,000) in prize money is awarded at the competition - enough for the winners to hire some swanky hotel rooms to celebrate their victory.

Visitors need not worry about such lofty price tags however, as there are plenty of cheap hotels and affordable places to stay in Frankfurt.

Among the events that spectators will enjoy at the International Riding Tournament are carriage driving, dressage and jumping contests.

Around 30,000 visitors have attended the show in recent years to see the likes of Olympic champion Anky van Grunsven compete.

Such a large audience and the seasonal decorations that are placed around the Festhalle ensure that there is always a festive and fun atmosphere at this event.
