Energetic visitors to Munich in autumn may be interested to find that the city isn't all about food and drink, as a fit person's alternative to expanding the beer gut at the Oktoberfest is held on October 14th.
Despite its name, the Munich Media Marathon isn't a race reserved for doyens of the fourth estate, instead being a great chance for members of the public who feel in great shape to take on the grand challenge of 26 miles and 385 yards, offering a great chance to explore the city in the process.
The course runs from the Olympiapark and, appropriately enough, ends at the Olympic stadium, with the intervening route taking in Schwabing, the English Garden and the famous old town, with its historic buildings and squares.
In addition to the marathon, there is also a 10k for those not feeling quite so fit.
Munich has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels.
