Symphony and Harmony at Musikfest

Symphony and harmony at Musikfest Berlin is set to become a haven for lovers of culture and classical music, as it hosts a series of world-class concerts.

The Musikfest event runs between September 1st and 17th every year, with some of the world's greatest orchestras in attendance.

Fans planning to take in the excitement may want to book into one of the city's cheap hotels, as concerts are held at various venues around the city, including Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus.

The 2006 event will feature many artists, including the Cleveland Orchestra and its music director Franz Welser-Most, The Philadelphia Orchestra with Christoph Eschenbach, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam with Mariss Jansons, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with Sakari Oramo, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra with Zoltan Kocsis and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra with Jonathan Nott.

Six special events will also be dedicated to the Hungarian composer Gyorgy Kurtag, who recently celebreated his 80th birthday this year.

Four concerts will also present works by English composers; Edward Elgar, Benjamin Britten, Sir Harrison Birtwistle and Jonathan Harvey.
