These German Shepherds Don't Bite

These German shepherds don't bite For visitors to Germany who fancy getting out into the country and seeing a bit of traditional life, a visit to the town of Rothenburg in Bavaria could be just the ticket.

In a state famous for its beer and leather shorts, the town has its own cultural celebration of its farming heritage with the Shepherd's Dance, which happens in the market place on Whit Sunday, May 27th.

The event sees lads and maids in traditional 19th century costume and ribbons providing a colourful spectacle, held at 11.30 and 13.45 local time, according to organisers.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in the town can buy tickets to see the event for €4.50 (£3) for a seat, €4 for a balcony view or €3 to stand.

Apart from the dance, the picturesque town of Rothenburg has enormous charm and history, with traditional architecture making this a picture book location.

Those who find the street scenes familiar may recognise the town as the Vulgarian village in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
