To Boden Go

To Boden go The largest lake in, or, strictly speaking, partly in Germany is the setting for a month-long cultural festival between April 28th and May 28th, when the 19th International Bodensee Festival takes place.

Held at various venues around the lake shore, this year will, according to organisers, see a major emphasis on the literary traditions surrounding myths and legends, while the music will include violinist and conductor Dmitry Sitkovetsky as artist-in-residence, while various orchestras and musicians perform classical pieces at venues such as Lindau, Salem Castle and Freidrichshafen.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels near the lake will also be able to enjoy the fine waterside scenery, plus fishing, boating and ferry trips between countries, the festival itself extending into Switzerland with a performance of the Sumerian Epic of Gilamesh planned for St Gallen, according to the programme.

A key attraction in the lake is the Palace Gardens on Mainau Island.
