World Cup Wheel of Fortunato

World Cup wheel of Fortunato A 62-year-old retired man from Portugal is planning to travel from his hometown to Munich by bicycle in order to attend the World Cup.

Jose Fortunato left the town of Vila Franca de Xira, which is 18 miles from Lisbon on Sunday and expects to arrive in Munich for the start of the tournament on June 9th.

"I am doing this because I am retired and I have nothing to do. It is a question of being stubborn and a bit adventurous," he told daily newspaper Publico.

The football fan says that he plans to cycle for five or six hours each day in order to cover the 2,600 sq km in 26 days.

"I am leaving on this trip with a bit of difficulty because the expenses are all up to me. I was thinking of returning by airplane but maybe I will have to come back by train, but I don't know how," he remarked.

Portugal have been polled in group D with Mexico, Iran and Angola. Their first match is against Angola in Cologne on June 11th.

If you don't fancy cycling to Germany and taking your chances with accommodation, now may be the perfect time to book your room in one of the many hotels in Munich.
